RECRUITMENT RALLY 2016 – is done and was terrific! We had a full house at the OBCS, thanks to all who got the word out, to Troop 2124’s volunteers who ran the craft table (Kira, Anique, Mallory + Emma) and to Amy Wallquist for making it happen and facilitating the event! We had 30 girls interested, already have one new Daisy Troop forming, and it looks like we might well have two more new troops before long!! There are a few girls that could fill vacancies in existing troops…if your troop has a place for another scout, please email Amy @ awallquist@gmail.com Great News Girl Scouts!

Safety Checkpoints, revised 2016: http://www.gsctx.org/content/dam/girlscouts-gsctx/documents/volunteers/safety-checkpoints/SafetyActivityCheckpoints2016.pdf
This is where you find what you need…before you take your scouts out…to participate in various activities; from “simple activities” like: fishing, hayrides, recreational tree climbing and playgrounds to more “intense activities” like: climbing/rappelling, scuba diving, vaulting on horseback…Girl Scouts has a safety checkpoint for 52 activities and some not recommended activities like bungee jumping, hunting, and skydiving (see list on p 4)
Volunteer Resource Guides for all Scout levels: http://www.gsctx.org/en/for-volunteers/volunteer-resources/troop-planning-resources.html
These guides are super helpful to new leaders – a little bit like Jumpstart Training, but with ideas for you to use as you plan and run your troop meetings throughout the program year. The bottom of this page also has tabs for GSCTX Tip Sheets, GSCTX Templates and Brand Guides, and links for other helpful resources as well as the All Star Trooper Award…some of the things included in templates and brand guides are: stationary, recruiting printables and graphics: logo, trefoil, fonts, color palette, and GSCTX Flickr account
Best Banking Practices Reminders:
- It is not okay to “borrow” GS funds – even if you pay it back.
- It is the responsibility of the co-signers to share the monthly bank account activity and balances with all the members of the troop
- To minimize cookie debt – if they don’t turn in money, don’t give them more cookies
- Reconcile cookies to actual deposits – if someone checks out $2000 worth of cookies they need to show deposits of $2000
Old Bee Cave Schoolhouse (OBCS) – is a great place for hosting troop meetings and events, currently 16 troops use it for their meetings. Contact Lisa Baker @ lisa-t@2124@live.com for info/reservation requests. Thanks to the City of Bee Cave for sharing this resource!
