It is always a pleasure to recognize Girl Scouts that are doing amazing things, serving in the community, and growing into young women of courage, confidence and character.  It is even more satisfying when I personally know and admire a girl who is doing amazing things.

Sophia Bickerton of Cadette Troop 809 recently received the Presidential Service Award (Bronze Level) for completing 50 hours of volunteer service in 2014.  Sophia performed a wide range of volunteer service to earn the award, including doing work for Child Protective Services, Austin Pets Alive, Girl Scouts, Austin Families in Nature, Parkside Community School, and Austin Montessori School, as well as participating in clean-ups of Shoal Creek.

Congratulations, Sophia.  I am very proud of you.
